All about Paco Collars

I fell in love with Paco collars even before I had Marnie. I went to a Bad Rap event in Berkeley and to look at a dog they had up for adoption. I met Ana and a dog named Muggy who had on the most gorgeous collar. I looked at the web page and went there regularly to see the collars over and over.  When I got Marnie I knew I would get one.

They are pricey- but I am so happy I saved up. We got fitted and we have our collar!

Leash Concerns

Well still having Leash concerns. She has a fixation with the dang deer. Even if there are none. If something,   person or whatever- are in the distance -forget it shes gone.  Ah- she comes back...eventually.   She has good recall, when she not aroused,  boy- really is nice cuz she is whitstle trained pretty good- unless ya know- something is better.

SO that is our new focus for 2014.
I am still working with Kay- have not yet made to the group (nice dog) social walks- because she occasionally goes into  "I am a Marlin at the end of a line"- still need to walk her with the head collar.  She has gotten away from me one too many times. so I must work on correcting it. - Its a secret .. will keep you posted.

Goal Accomplished CGC

Thats right folks!!!  MARNIE earned her CGC. so proud.
Of course I had to register her with the AKC to get her a PAL- Purebred Alternative Listing-  number. Since she is a rescue from a shelter- the AKC has a program where you can compete for titles-so because Stan said from the day he met her- "She untrainable"- I have to be super competitive and prove him wrong !!
In order to do that there a small fees and you need to fill out paper work and send pictures to prove why you think she is what ever particular breed. She looks Bull Mastif and Carne Corso- all mastiffy breeds- so I picked Bull Mastiff..
here are the pics I submitted along with some breed descriptins, which really fit Marnies personality.

Post October 2013- I FOUND KAY

Me and Marnie and classmate Domino
I found Kays dog training in October. !!!! A wonderful person! She does work with shelter dogs-give a lot to the dog community. I adore her! Marnie loves her- We went to many of her classes and Marnies get to be exposed to new dogs and new situations-wow I cant go into them all. Its still a work in progress but my main goal was to get her a CGC title befor the end of the year. I went to so many classes.
One of Kays friend (Aron Wood)  and another CGC evaluater has classes too. I tried to go to many so I could get her past the leash impulse problem. Its better- but not perfect.

Formal Trainng 2013 highlights pre October

Marnie came to me knowing nothing about manners and civil dog behavior. I spent some time reading all I could about clicker training  cuz it intrigued me and during 2011 during her rehab, I needed something to sharpen her brain., more to the point- teaching her to learn with out getting her heartrate up. SOO clicker trained her all the tricks I could
-Play Dead-
shake hands
roll over
taught her how to turn on a lamp with a touch plate
taught her how to "touch" with her nose (target)

So when she could start to walk- I used the clicker to teach her not to pull on the leash and to heel.  She now was pretty good. HER problem is she weighs about 90lbs (today about 81)
A few times- she had impulse problems at other dogs, deer, squirrel and pulled me to the ground. I came to figure out she knew she could get away, and / or pull me down.

I then after, many collar configurations and types, ended up using a Halti. I use 2 leashes one on a martingale, and one on the hallti. I weigh about 100 lbs- soo you can see the problem.

I took an obedience class- she was the teachers favorite UNTIL the last day when she linged and whipped around to try and free herself to get to the teachers dog. She had took it out of the crate- and of course that was a new dog -all hell broke loose. OOPS. fortunately-shes quiet and all she wants to do is sniff butt.  So I needed more to train too. The teacher suggested going to the Vets Parking lot and train wioth unfamiliar dogs going and coming.  I wanted to do that but its very inconvienient.

Then I found KAYS Dog training , in Roseville! She has a class for leash reactive dogs!

2013 updates

Marnie has had a great year. Her health is great and we go on long walks and she plays hard. There seems to be no negative results from her enlarged heart due to the heartworm. She plays hard and always seems to have energy to run up the hill after deer. Listed are some of the accomplishments for 2013!

-She is a great ranch dog , hanging out at the barn- being very good with the ranchanimals- horses, cats and dogs.
